Commitment Ceremonies

How you choose to express your love, devotion and life-long commitment to each other is a hugely personal choice.

It is often the case that we want to celebrate our love for our partners. When you have found the one, your soul mate you want to shout it from the roof tops! Over time, traditions have changed and not everybody has the desire to get married or have a civil partnership. Perhaps you have been married before and do not want to do it again, maybe things are just complicated. There’s no need to feel left out though. After all love is love and if you want to celebrate your love and commitment, in a unique and special way with your family and friends then I can help you do that. Such ceremonies can include all the traditional elements of a wedding; you can say vows, exchange rings, have your best friend read a poem, play music and kiss passionately in front of your family and friends – there’s no right or wrong format it is totally up to you.

Commitment ceremonies can take place wherever you like and whatever time of day you wish. Perhaps it will be a sunny afternoon on a canal boat, on a lake jetty, by the side of a beautiful tarn – dare to dream big!

Commitment Ceremony Celebrant in Carlisle, Cumbria

I want you to have the best day and have everything that you had hoped for. I can deliver a ceremony that is fresh and modern or based on tradition. I am so enthusiastic about weddings and get so excited for my couples. It’s important we click so we have a good rapport, many laughs and a whole lot of trust. Organising your ceremony should be enjoyable and with minimal stress. I make the time to get to know you well so that you feel more relaxed on the day and are just ready to take it all in and feel the love. Communication is everything as it will help reduce any stress and anxieties. You can get in touch with me by phone, email or over Zoom for extra meetings so your mind is completely at ease. I will work alongside you from the day you choose me as your celebrant to the day of the ceremony. Your ceremony will be unique – no other couple will have a ceremony like yours.

There is one thing I can’t do however and it’s a big one – I can’t do the legal bit. In England and Wales only faith leaders and registrars can legally marry you. To do this you would need to go to your local registry office, with 2 witnesses and get your legal marriage certificate in a ‘Statutory Ceremony’. It is really quick and doesn’t cost the earth (less than £100). You repeat the legal vows and sign the register in a similar way you would register a birth or death. You don’t even need to exchange rings. I suggest you do this before your wedding ceremony so it is out the way and done with.

So, if this sounds like something you would like to do, please get in touch without any obligation. I would love to hear about your hopes, wishes and dreams.

Each part of your commitment ceremony can be handcrafted to suit your desires. My promise to you is it will be a unique, totally bespoke ceremony that will be entwined in your memories forever.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Image
You get in contact with me via email, message, phone call, facebook, Instagram, or in person and we have initial chat about your requirements and wishes. You can give me a date and I will see if it is available. If it is then lets meet up! We get to know each other and you can decide if you would like me to be your celebrant.
Image
Once you have decided I am the one for you I ask that you pay me a deposit. All the fees and deposits can be found below. This deposit secures your date.
Image
We then meet up in person or over Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and we get to know each other even more. This can take between 1-2 hours it totally depends what we get chatting about and if we get distracted! At this meeting I want to get to know all about your love story – I will ask you all sorts of questions in getting to know you as a couple. This helps me make your ceremony totally unique and personal. We also talk about what ideas you have for your ceremony – where will it be, is there a theme, will there be bridesmaids and a best man/men, how many guests will there be, do you want any symbolic actions and so on. If you don’t know the answers to any of these questions – it’s totally fne – don’t worry! I have a wealth of ideas and I will talk you through them all if needs be! The time will fly by and it might be we need another meeting!
Image
I will send you a whole host of readings and poems to see if you would like to include any. No pressure to do so at all.
Image
I go away and compose a draft script for your ceremony using all the information I have gained from us meeting.
Image
It is important for me to say there are no restrictions on how many times we re-write the draft ceremony. It has to be absolutely perfect. If there is anything you don’t like, just let me know I really don’t mind.
Image
We can have a rehearsal at the venue if it is not too far away. This isn’t compulsory it’s just if you want to. I don’t like to read through the script so it can be new to you on the day, but we can go through the choreography of your ceremony and the music. I can liaise with staff and your photographer should they be there.
Image
I will contact the venue near the date of the ceremony to check timings and the running of the day etc. if I haven’t been there before I will do my best to visit so I am familiar with my surroundings.
Image
I will go through with you all the suppliers you are using so photographer, videographer, musicians and so on so I can introduce them to your guests.
Image
At this point we should be nearing the stage where we can say we have our final draft. I like to do this (by the latest) a week or 2 before your ceremony. That gives me time to add in any readings, poems or music and importantly vows you have chosen.
Image
When the big day arrives, I will be at the venue an hour or so before the ceremony. I will let you know the exact time before hand. I will find you both and either together or separately check you’re alright and go through the running order just to put your minds at rest. I will also try and find the other people that may be involved with your ceremony such as those doing a reading and poem just so they know when they will be introduced. Everything will be set up and ready to go in good time.

After the ceremony when there’s a chance to have 2 minutes with you, I will present you with a beautiful presentation box with a copy of your ceremony script and certificate in (should you have chosen to sign one).
